2024 Race Information

The Bad Thing Trail Race 2024:
Race Date: October 26th, 2024

This year’s race format is planned to follow the same route format (Point to Point) as last year,with the finish at the Auburn Riverside Retreat.

Things you need to know for Race Day: 

You will be bussed to the start line.  Please ensure you arrive at the Auburn Riverside Retreat at least 20 min prior to bus departure (6:15 for the 50K, 8:30 for the 25K)

Bus departure times:

  • 50K – 6:15am sharp for the

  • 25K - 8:30am sharp

Race Times and Location – 50K starts at 7am, 25K at 9am – please meet at the Auburn Riverside Retreat at least 15 min prior to bus departure.

The Route – Point to Point from Goderich to Auburn

Provided Post-Race Meal – the post-race meal will be a catered BBQ by Pineridge BBQ. There will be a chicken, pork or vegan option.

Refund Policy:
All Sales are final. Race Huron will not issue refunds, transfers or deferrals under any circumstances. All of our races benefit charitable organizations in Huron County and race proceeds are used to continually improve the race experience (race course, safety and event improvements)

The Bad Thing trail race is the ONLY point to point trail race in Ontario. It takes place in Huron County, Ontario along the stunning Maitland Trail. The race ends at the Auburn Riverside Retreat.

The 50K option starts in Goderich and ends in Auburn. The 25K portion starts roughly at the half way point of the 50K race course (see route details below).The race consists mainly of single track, highly technical trail with a small amount of road and groomed trail along the way.

Participants should be prepared for very technical, potentially muddy, tough terrain. This race is not for inexperienced trail runners.Because this a point-to-point race, runners will be transported from the meeting point in Auburn (The Auburn Riverside Retreat), via bus to the starting point in Goderich. Please meet at the Auburn Riverside Retreat no later than 6:00am to check-in.

The bus will leave Auburn at 6:15am sharp for the 50K option and 8:30am sharp for the 25K option.

The bus ride is mandatory for all participants, as race brief, and rules will be gone over on the ride. No one will be permitted to race unless they meet in Auburn to check in first, and ride the bus to the start.

**Minimum age for participants is 18 years old.

Accommodations for The Bad Thing

General Info:

  • Race race check in is in Auburn, however there is not much in the way of accommodations here as its a very small town.

  • Blyth, ON is approx. 5 minutes drive to race start. Blyth has a few places to stay.

  • Goderich, ON is approx. 15-20 min drive to race check in. This is also where the actual running starts. Goderich has many B&Bs, Hotels and Motels.
